Unterdettingen Castle
The castle ruin of Unterdettingen, a former lowland castle, was built at the confluence of the Dießenbach and the Neckar.
History+
The origins of Unterdettingen Castle date back to the 12th century. It was built by the Lords of Dettingen, a noble family who sometimes bore the surname "Lamp." This family served as ministeriales, i.e., as servants and administrators, to both the Counts of Hohenberg and the Counts Palatine of Tübingen.
Location+
The ruin is located north of the residential area of Unterdettingen, a district of Dettingen, which in turn belongs to Horb am Neckar in the Freudenstadt district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its location at approximately 419 meters above sea level once offered a good overview of the surrounding terrain.
On site+
Today, remains of the castle complex are still preserved, integrated into a farmhouse. The ruin is accessible to visitors.
