Walchen Old Castle

The first documented mention of the Walchen lordship and the noble family of the same name dates back to 1040. The Walchen family served as ministeriales of the Kammer lordship. In 1371, a court in Walchen was mentioned as a fief of the Schaunbergs. Ulrich von Walchen, listed in Duke Albrecht III's feudal register in 1380, held the office of administrator of Kammer Castle. King Ladislaus Posthumus enfeoffed Hanns the Walch and his brothers with the seat at Walchen in 1456. Around 1512, Wolfgang Walch was the administrator of Kogl Castle. Through the marriage of Konrad Walch's daughter Barbara to Hans Tunser, Walchen came into his possession in 1533. It later passed to Hanns Putz, who was enfeoffed with Walchen in 1550. The Putz family fell under suspicion of treason in 1578, leading to the imprisonment and torture of Hanns Putz, who died in custody.
