The Walkenstein Castle Ruin, sometimes also known as Falkenstein or Valkenstein, is located on a western spur of the “Webersköpfles” near Oberwolfach-Walke in the Ortenau district.

History+

The castle's construction is presumed to have taken place in the 14th century, likely by the Counts of Fürstenberg. Its primary function was to secure mining rights and the transport routes for ore. In 1364, an “Aigelwart von Walkenstein” is mentioned as the owner of the tower castle. Between 1988 and 1990, the remaining parts of the complex were archaeologically documented and preserved.
