Weikertschlag Castle

Weikertschlag Castle was first indirectly mentioned in 1178 when its then owners Albero and Wichart were named in a document concerning the tithe for the Geras and Pernegg monasteries. After 1232, the complex came into the possession of the Babenbergs. Following the extinction of this dynasty, King Ottokar II. Přemysl unsuccessfully attempted to reclaim the castle from Rudolf von Habsburg. In 1404, the castle was occupied by Hynek von Kunstadt, Ulrich von Neuhaus, and Albert von Vöttau. In response, Dukes Wilhelm and Albrecht besieged and destroyed the complex, with the year 1399 also being mentioned as the time of the siege.
