The Wensburg castle ruin, also known as Burg Wensberg, is in a forest on a hilltop southwest of Lind in the Ahrweiler district. This spur castle once formed the center of its own dominion in the Lierstal valley.

History+

The construction of Wensburg is dated to the late 13th or early 14th century. It was first documented in 1401 when Dietrich von Gymnich pledged the castle to Archbishop Friedrich of Cologne as a fief. Through the marriage of his granddaughter Katharina, the property passed to the von Helfenstein family, who later sold it to Engelbert von Orsbeck. In 1506, Dietrich von Orsbeck redeemed the right of repurchase, securing the castle permanently for his family.
