Wiedersberg Castle

The origins of Wiedersberg Castle date back to around 1200, when it was built to secure the trade route between Plauen and Hof. A first documentary mention can be found in 1267, when a Reimboto de Widersberch was named. The castle is considered the ancestral seat of the Wiedersperger von Wiedersperg family. In 1357, the complex, then referred to as “Widersberg castrum,” passed into the possession of the Wettin dynasty. After 1300, the castle underwent expansions but began to decay around 1500.
