Wiedersberg Castle

Wiedersberg Castle is the ruin of a spur castle on a 490 m above sea level high spur of the Haagberg above the Wiedersberg district of the municipality of Triebel/Vogtl. in the Vogtlandkreis in Saxony.

Wiedersberg Castle was built around 1200 as a castle to protect the road leading from Plauen to Hof. The first documentary evidence dates from the mention of a Reimboto de Widersberch in 1267. The castle is considered the ancestral home of the Barons Wiedersperger von Wiedersperg. In Troschenreuth, the castle had an outwork. In 1357, Widersberg castrum passed into the possession of the Wettins. The castle was expanded after 1300 and fell into disrepair after 1500. In the 16th century, a Renaissance manor house was built in the valley directly in the village. Today, the keep and the surrounding walls of the hilltop castle are still preserved.
