The remains of the Castle can be visited

On the Wildburg hill in the Soonwald forest stands the Wildburg castle ruin, a former hilltop castle. Located near Sargenroth in the Rhein-Hunsrück district, it was once a center in the Rhineland-Palatinate region.

History+

Wildburg was likely built as an imperial castle to protect and administer the surrounding imperial territories. It was garrisoned by imperial ministerials who gradually gained more independence. The Lords of Wiltburg were influential, making the castle their ancestral seat from the 13th to the 15th century. As early as 1286, documents show multiple owners, indicating it was a joint-heritage castle. Besides the Lords of Wiltberg, the Lords of Metzenhausen, Sabershausen, and Buch were also listed as co-owners.
