In a side valley of the Kinzig, the castle ruin of Wolfach, also known as Altwolfach or Schlössle, stands on a steep conical hill. This former hilltop castle, whose origins are presumed to be in the late 11th century, is a medieval structure in Baden-Württemberg.

The exact construction date of Wolfach Castle is not documented, but its Salian architectural style suggests it was built towards the end of the 11th century by the Lords of Wolfach. The name "Wolfacha" first appeared in records in 1084, mentioning a Fridericus de Wolfhacha as an inhabitant. After a long gap in records, the castle reappears in sources from 1272, which describe a miraculous hen. In 1291, the lordship of Wolfach passed to the Fürstenberg family through the marriage of Friedrich von Fürstenberg to Udilhild von Wolfach, the last heir.
