Wullross Castle

The first documented mention of Wullross occurred around the year 1200 under the name Woldris. In 1342, it was referred to as Volreichs, with the name deriving from the person Wolrich. A Waltherus de Woldris is named as the feudal lord. In 1446, Leonhard, the last of the Wullroß family, fell in the Turkish wars. The noble family bore a bull with a nose ring in their coat of arms. At the end of the 15th century, Wilhelm Rumpf acquired the castle. Later, Wullross came into the possession of Wilhelm Neumann through his daughter Barbara Rumpf's marriage to him. The castle chapel, dedicated to Saint Barbara, was described as desecrated in 1578, indicating a Protestant lordship.
