Zarge Castle
The Zarge ruin, also called Alte Zarge, is the ruin of a hilltop castle at 245 m above sea level above the Kocher valley on the lower spur of the Zargenberg near the Nagelsberg (Zur Zarge) district of the city of Künzelsau in the Hohenlohe district (Baden-Württemberg).
The castle was probably built in the 11th century, is said to have been the seat of the legendary Mechthild vom Stein around 1090, and was already a ruin in the 14th century.
The castle was a medium-sized complex on a castle area of about 550 square meters. The ruin still shows the mountain-facing shield wall, whose beam supports indicate a wooden building attached to the wall.
