Zarge Castle
The castle ruin Zarge, also known as Alte Zarge, is a hilltop castle ruin above the Kochertal valley near Künzelsau-Nagelsberg in Baden-Württemberg.
History+
The construction of Zarge Castle is presumed to have taken place in the 11th century. Around the year 1090, it is said to have been the residence of the Mechthild vom Stein. By the 14th century, the complex had already fallen into ruin. Originally, it was a medium-sized castle complex, extending over an area of approximately 550 square meters. Today, the shield wall, located on the mountain side, still shows traces of beam supports that indicate a former wooden building attached there.

The Zarge castle ruin is situated on a lower spur of the Zargenberg, in the Nagelsberg district of Künzelsau. It is located in the Hohenlohe district in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, at an elevation of approximately 236 meters above sea level.
