Zuzenhausen Castle

The origins of Zuzenhausen Castle likely date back to around 1250, when it was built by Ludwig von Huffnen. Its first documented mention dates to 1286. The complex underwent several expansions and served as a residence for the Lords of Venningen from the mid-16th century. Although the Zuzenhausen line of the family died out in 1637, the castle remained in their possession. Destructions occurred during the Thirty Years' War in 1643 by Bavarian troops and again in 1689 during the Palatinate War of Succession by French forces.
