Hohenkottenheim Castle

The castle was first documented in 1356, when it was founded by the noble family of Niederkottenheim. From the 14th century onwards, it served as the ancestral seat of the Counts of Seinsheim. In 1510, Melchior von Seinsheim zu Hohenkottenheim received the privilege of high justice for the village of Nordheim. The castle suffered destruction during the Peasants' War on May 14, 1525, but was rebuilt in the same year by Georg Ludwig the Elder. It was burned down a second time on June 19, 1553, during the Margrave War, by mercenaries of Margrave Albrecht Alcibiades. A reconstruction into a castle, begun in 1590, was ended by a major fire.
