The Cadolzburg, a castle complex in Bavaria, stands at approximately 347 meters above sea level. Its history dates back to the 12th century; it once served as a seat for the Hohenzollern burgraves of Nuremberg.

History+

First documented in 1157, Cadolzburg gave its name to the market town of Cadolzburg, first mentioned in 1388. The current architectural structure of the castle primarily dates from the 13th to the 18th century. From around 1260, Cadolzburg established itself as the residence of the Hohenzollern burgraves of Nuremberg. Elector Frederick I of Brandenburg undertook renovations of the castle and passed away there in 1440. The complex remained undamaged during the Thirty Years' War. At the end of World War II in 1945, the castle was severely damaged by fire.
