Carstenn Castle

The current basic form of the manor house originated around 1780 on the foundations of an older building. The original architect and its initial use are not known. After modifications, the large landowner Johann Anton Wilhelm von Carstenn moved in in 1865. He had acquired the Lichterfelde estate to develop a villa colony there. The small palace still bears his name today. After World War II, the building was taken over by American soldiers in 1945 to establish a neighborhood center. From 1948, the newly founded Nachbarschaftsheim Steglitz e. V. rented the premises for social purposes and used the entire house from the 1970s onwards. In 1982, a daycare center and an after-school care facility were added. After the association filed for insolvency in 1999, the Stadtteilzentrum Steglitz e. V. took over the building, which is now a protected monument.
