Casa delle Vestali (House of the Vestals)
In the Roman Forum in Rome, the Casa delle Vestali, also known as the House of the Vestals, was once the residence of the priestesses of Vesta.
History+
The Vestals, as the only priestesses of Rome, guarded the sacred fire in the adjacent Temple of Vesta. Their office lasted 30 years, during which they were bound to chastity. The original house was expanded under Augustus by incorporating the Domus Publica. After its destruction in the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD, the structure visible today was built, which was renovated and remodeled several times during the imperial era.

Visitors have been able to explore the renovated complex since January 27, 2011. The two-story building, featuring marble floors and wall coverings, includes an inner courtyard with a water basin, which was once adorned with marble statues of the highest-ranking Vestals.
