Castel Brando

Near Cison di Valmarino is Castel Brando. Originally conceived as a Roman fortress, it served to protect important Alpine connections and evolved into a castle.
History+
The origins of Castel Brando date back to 46 AD, when it was built by the Romans as a fortress to secure the strategically important connection between Northern Italy and the Alpine countries. During the Migration Period, it proved its worth as a bulwark against barbarian invasions and was continuously expanded. In the 13th century, under the Da Camino family (1233–1335), it underwent a significant expansion into a castle. Later, ownership passed to the Republic of Venice. After its fall in 1797, the Counts of Brandolini took over the estate.
