Castello Borgia
In Nepi, a municipality in the province of Viterbo, stands the Castello Borgia, a castle complex built on the remains of an older feudal seat.
History+
The origins of Castello Borgia date back to the 3rd or 2nd century BC, as evidenced by the discovery of a section of a Roman road with three gates beneath the castle. The current form of the complex was largely shaped by Pope Alexander VI, who initiated its redesign and expansion in 1479. Later, in 1537, the fortress was further strengthened and expanded by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, commissioned by Duke Pier Luigi II Farnese, son of Pope Paul III.

The complex features four square corner towers of varying sizes and two round towers, one of which is accessible. Inside, there is a rectangular hall and two smaller adjoining rooms, which are still undergoing restoration.
