The origins of the Castello di Bardi date back to the year 869, when the first fortress was erected at this location. In 1257, the complex underwent an expansion by the Lords of Bardi, who spearheaded the castle's development. Emperor Charles V granted them the privilege of minting their own coins in 1551.
