Castello di Duino
The Castello di Duino is an impressive castle picturesquely situated on the cliffs above the Gulf of Trieste in Duino, Italy. It combines a rich history with a spectacular coastal landscape.
History+
The origins of the current castle date back to the 14th century, when it was built in 1389 by the Wallsee family. This construction took place on the foundations of an older fortification from the 11th century, which had once been commissioned by the Patriarch of Aquileia. In the 19th century, the castle became the residence of Prince Alexander von Thurn und Taxis and his wife Princess Marie. To this day, it remains in the possession of the Thurn und Taxis family and is currently inhabited by Prince Carlo Alessandro della Torre e Tasso, the great-grandson of Prince Alexander and Princess Marie.
