Approximately 20 kilometers east of Rome, Italy, is the Castello di Lunghezza, a medieval castle. Its history dates back to the 8th century and is linked with Roman noble families.

History+

The origins of the Castello di Lunghezza trace back to the year 761 AD, when the complex was constructed. For several generations, the castle was owned by the Poli family. In the 13th century, a conflict arose with Pope Boniface VIII after the Poli family granted the lands surrounding the castle to a local monastery. Following this dispute, the Papacy gained control of the property and bestowed it upon the Roman noble family Orsini. In the 1950s, British curator Malcolm Munthe acquired the castle with the intention of restoring it and opening it to the public.
