Castelvecchio in Verona is an imposing historical structure that once served as the Scaliger castle. Today, it houses an important museum and stands as a remarkable example of medieval military architecture in the Veneto region.
History+
The construction of Castelvecchio took place between 1354 and 1356 under Cangrande II della Scala. Over the centuries, the building underwent numerous alterations by Venetian, French, and Austrian occupiers. Since 1923, it has functioned as a museum. A comprehensive renovation was carried out from 1958 to 1964 under the direction of the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa.
