The Castillo de Tébar is a historic fortress situated approximately 12 kilometers outside the city center of Águilas in the Spanish region of Murcia. Located at an elevation of around 474 meters above sea level, this strategic point once offered ideal conditions for settlement and served as an important observation post.
History+
The origins of Castillo de Tébar date back to the 12th century, with its architecture showing clear influences of High Medieval Islamic construction. The fortress played a crucial role in the region's defense, particularly as a reporting center for pirate attacks to alert the garrison in Lorca.

The fortress is located in the municipality of Águilas, in the district of Murcia, in the region of Murcia, Spain. It stands at an elevation of approximately 474 meters above sea level.
On site+
Today, visitors can explore the remnants of the fortress. What remains is the ruin of a tower, once 15 meters high, whose current remains measure seven meters and feature loopholes and embrasures for artillery from the 16th and 17th centuries. To the east, the foundations of a rectangular building and a second tower can be found. The entire site is enclosed by a 950-meter-long and half-meter-wide curtain wall.
