Castle Moil

The remains of the Castle can be visited

In Kyleakin, on the Scottish Isle of Skye, stands the ruin of Castle Moil. This fortress, also known as Dunakin, offers a glimpse into the region's history and the strategic importance of its location.

History+

The construction of Castle Moil is attributed to the Norman princess Saucy Mary, who lived in the 12th century and was married to a Laird of the MacKinnon clan. According to legend, she had a chain stretched between Maol and Loch Alsh to plunder passing ships. The castle's main wall, which measured 3.35 meters in thickness, was severely damaged by a storm on February 1, 1948. In 1951, a quantity of coins was discovered within one of the ruin's walls.
