Castle Pook
In Ireland's County Cork rises the ruin of Castle Pook, a structure of Norman origin.
History+
Castle Pook was constructed in 1380 by the Synan family. The Norman-style edifice is made of limestone and featured a stone vaulted roof, which remains intact to this day. Originally, a stone spiral staircase ascended in the southwest corner, but smooth stone elements such as this staircase, as well as window and door frames, have been removed.
Location+
The ruin of Castle Pook is situated a few kilometers north of Doneraile in County Cork, part of the Munster region in Ireland. It lies in the foothills of the Ballyhoura Mountains at an elevation of approximately 99 meters above sea level.
