Cella Sankt Benedikt

The founding of Cella Sankt Benedikt dates back to an initiative by Bishop Josef Homeyer of Hildesheim in 1984. He requested Königsmünster Abbey to establish a new monastery in his diocese. In October 1986, Abbot Stephan Schröer solemnly declared the intention to realize such a foundation in Hanover. The monks were tasked with developing contemporary forms of Benedictine life within a secular metropolis. In July 1988, six brothers were dispatched to Hanover. Today, the monks are involved in spiritual guidance, among other activities, and have operated a speech therapy practice since 1997.

The monastery is located in the List district of the Hanover region in Lower Saxony, Germany.

Cella Sankt Benedikt is housed in a Wilhelminian-era building. Between 2010 and 2011, a dedicated monastery church was integrated into the building, consecrated in February 2011. The church, designed by Gido Hülsmann and Dirk Boländer, is characterized by its clear design. A translucent alabaster wall separates the space from the street, while a cross created by P. Abraham Fischer defines the altar area.
