Chanowskysches Castle

In Langenbrettach-Brettach stands the Chanowsky Palace, a former manor house from the late 16th century, distinguished by its Mannerist architectural style.

The Bohemian nobleman Heinrich Chanowsky, who emigrated from Bohemia in the 1580s due to his Protestant faith, settled in Neuenstadt am Kocher around 1593/94 after stays in Heidelberg, where he served as forester for Duke Friedrich I. Between 1609 and 1610, he built his manor house on the main street in Brettach. In addition to the palace, the Chanowsky family's estate also included the Lindenhof, which served as a farmstead. In 1664, the property passed to Duke Friedrich of Württemberg-Neustadt. From the 18th century onwards, the palace became private property, was divided into two halves, and converted for residential use. Particularly in the 1970s, structural changes were made to the northern half, while the southern half underwent renovation.
