The exact origins of Château Batailley are not fully clear. The name of the estate could derive from the French word “bataille” (battle), suggesting that the site was once part of Bordeaux's defenses during the Hundred Years' War. Another theory posits that the name comes from a winemaker or merchant named Batailley. In the 18th century, the winery was owned by the Saint-Martin family. Following an inheritance division, Marianne and Marthe Saint-Martin sold their share in 1791 to Jean-Guillaume Pécholier.
