Château Bursinel

The history of Château Bursinel is closely linked to the de Sacconay family, who were lords of the castle for three centuries starting in 1535. A prominent member was Jean de Sacconay, a general who served in various European armies. In 1783, Suzanne de Sacconay, granddaughter of Jean Bernard-Ferdinand de Watteville, resided in the castle. In the 19th century, the property changed hands when it was sold to Frédéric Monod from Morges in 1854. In the mid-20th century, on July 17, 1956, the Château became the property of a Lausanne real estate company. The castle gained particular historical significance in October 1527, when a memorable banquet took place here. Vaudois nobles, allied with the Duke of Savoy, gathered in the knight's hall to declare their hostility towards Geneva. This vow to conquer Geneva led to the formation of the “League of the Spoon.” Although the castle was burned down in 1530, it was rebuilt in the 18th century, preserving the layout of the Gothic watchtower and the knight's hall.

Château Bursinel is located in the municipality of Bursinel in the Nyon district, in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland, at an altitude of approximately 432 meters above sea level.
