Château Châtillon (Collombey)

On the edge of the main road lies the Du Fay de Lavallaz manor house, also known as Châtillon Castle.

As one approaches Collombey, one can already see from a distance the castle of the Lords of Arbignon, which is now a religious monastery. But Collombey possesses yet another castle, whose history has its roots in the Middle Ages. East of the monastery, on the other side of the main road, lies the castle of the Lords of Châtillon-Larringes. The foundations still conceal the remains of a tower that belonged to the Lords of Collombey. In 1348, they sold the fortified structure to Wilhelm von Châtillon-Larringes, the former Savoyard castellan of Saillon and and Conthey. When the Châtillon family died out at the beginning of the 17th century, the castle passed to the du Fay de Lavallaz family - a branch of this line still lives in the castle. In 1650, the square building was almost completely destroyed by a fire. It was rebuilt shortly thereafter and thus acquired its present appearance.
