Château Crêtes (Clarens)

Château Crêtes was built in 1864 by Vincent Dubochet. Dubochet became wealthy by installing illuminating gas in Paris. He had a villa town built in Clarens between the hill on which the castle stands and the lake. They were called "Dubochet Villas". In one of them, No. 17, Paul Kruger, the ex-president of Transvaal, lived between 1900 and 1904. In 1885, the castle was rebuilt. In 1877, Vincent Dubochet died. After this, the Peruvian Del Solar family acquired the castle, which later established a private clinic there.

In 1945, Dr. Bernard Frey, a veterinarian from Köniz (BE), bought the castle and had it renovated from 1945-1947. In 1985, the property was sold to a German entrepreneur, who in turn had it restored starting in 1987.
