Château d'Aigremont
The Château d'Aigremont, a prime example of Neoclassical architecture, is located in the Walloon region of Belgium. It stands on a rocky ridge above the Meuse valley.
History+
The origins of Aigremont date back to its first mention around the year 900. In the Middle Ages, it developed into a fortification and repeatedly offered refuge to opponents of the Prince-Bishops of Liège, including William I of Mark in 1468. The current Neoclassical castle was built between 1717 and 1727, after Archdeacon Mathias Clercx acquired the estate from the Mark family.
