In the French region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in the commune of Albon in the Drôme department, is the Château d'Albon. The complex, whose most striking feature is a square tower on a castle mound, was once the center of power for the Albon family and played a role in the history of the Dauphiné.

The origins of the Château d'Albon date back to the 9th century, when a small chapel and grain silos existed on this site. In the 11th century, the complex developed into the center of power for the Albon family, who adopted the title of count. The original chapel was replaced by a larger Gothic chapel, and a "palace" with a reception hall and private quarters was built. In the 13th century, the castle mound was raised and a three-story keep was erected, initially made of wood, later of molasse and pebbles. The castle chapel underwent further reconstruction.
