Château d'Andlau

The remains of the Castle can be visited

The Château d'Andlau, a castle ruin with two characteristic towers, is situated in the French Grand Est region, in the Bas-Rhin department near Andlau.

History+

The construction of the castle is attributed to Eberhard von Andlau, who most likely had it built between 1246 and 1264. In 1678, after the conquest of Alsace, the castle was plundered by the troops of Marshal de Créquy. It remained in the possession of the Counts of Andlau until the French Revolution and served as a residence for a forester or gamekeeper. During the Revolution, the property was confiscated as a national asset and sold to a merchant in 1796. After 1806, he sold the castle to various owners who used it as a quarry.
