History+

The origins of the Château d'Annecy date back to the 12th century, with construction continuing until the 16th century. During this period, it served as the residence for the Counts of Geneva and later the Dukes of Nemours. The castle suffered several fires, leading to significant damage. After a particularly devastating fire in 1320, it was abandoned for two years and extensively rebuilt under the reign of Amadeus III of Geneva. From the 17th century until 1947, the Château d'Annecy was used militarily as a barracks.
