History+
The origins of the estate date back to 1217, with the associated chapel stemming from this early period. The initial construction work on the current castle began between 1711 and 1720 under Philibert I de Verchère, who had a building with two pavilions erected. His grandson, Philibert II, Marquis of Arcelot and a councilor of the Parliament of Burgundy, commissioned architect Thomas Dumorey to build the present castle, which was completed between 1761 and 1764. It was the first of its kind in the neoclassical style in the region. The castle remained in the direct inheritance of the Verchère family until 1870, when, after the death of Guillaume Verchère without descendants, it passed to the Carrelet de Loisy family, who still own it today. The Château was classified as a Monument historique on September 22, 1948, an recognition extended to the castle park on April 30, 1999.
