History+

The origins of the Château d'Arginy likely date back to the 14th century, after the Beaujeu family sold the property to Guillaume du Vernet. In 1374, Guichard de Verneys paid homage at the castle. The du Vernet family owned the castle until the 15th or early 16th century, after which it passed into the possession of various lower-ranking noble families. In July 1974, parts of the castle, including the facades, roofs, and moat, were classified as a historic monument. The Château is linked to legends of the Knights Templar; it is said that the last Grand Master, Jacques de Molay, sent his nephew Guichard de Beaujeu here to hide a Templar treasure. The French esotericist Jacques Breyer also lived in the castle for a time and claimed to have had mystical experiences there, which led to the founding of neo-Templar groups.
