Château d’Armailhac

The agricultural use of the lands belonging to what is now Château d’Armailhac can be traced back to the early 14th century when they were owned by Pons de Castillon. In the 15th century, the estates passed to Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester. After the Hundred Years' War, they came into French possession. Through the Foix family, a portion went to the notary Jacques de Ségur, who began planting the first vineyards around 1670. His grandson, Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, sold Mouton to Joseph de Brane in 1720 (or 1725), leading to the separation of Mouton and Lafite. Dominique Armailhacq acquired the estate building and the central part of the lands, after which the property began producing wine under the name Mouton-d’Armailhacq by 1740 at the latest. Following financial difficulties, the d’Armailhacq brothers sold the estate in 1843.
