History+
The origins of the Château d'Oiron date back to the 15th century when King Charles VII granted the estate to Guillaume Gouffier, who developed it. His descendants continued the expansions; Helene de Hengest, for example, had a collegiate church built next to the castle in 1538. In 1551, Claude Gouffier, who held the title Marquis de Caravaz, hosted King Henry II and his entire court.
