In Useldange, Luxembourg, stands the Château d'Useldange, a medieval castle complex, which can now be visited as a ruin. It is on a hill in the center of Useldange.
History+
The origins of Useldange Castle date back to the early 12th century, when it was built around 1100. After the extinction of the original Lords of Useldange in 1415, ownership passed to Jean de Rodemacher through marriage. In 1479, Emperor Maximilian I confiscated the estate and entrusted it to Margrave Christoph I of Baden. During the Burgundian Wars, the castle and its chapel suffered damage. In 1674, Wilhelm von Nassau-Vianden inherited the castle but soon sold it to Franz-Sebastian Bauer from Everlingen. The complex decayed, and in 1903, the castle chapel was completely demolished. A turning point came in 1924 when Francis Kuhn-Wolff, an emigrant from Useldange to the USA, acquired the ruin. After stabilization work on the walls and the keep, her family erected a modern villa on the site in 1934, which now serves as the town hall.
