Château Daillens

The castle of Daillens was built in the 16th century and later modified several times (among other things, the former towers were demolished around 1832). Today it is a large farmhouse.

The first mention of a fortified house in Daillens dates back to 1373. It was then owned by the Lords of Daillens, a family of local nobility. In the 16th century, the castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style, probably by the Bernese family of Diesbach, who acquired the estate in 1520.

Over the centuries, the castle underwent numerous transformations. In the 18th century, it was converted into a country residence. In the 19th century, the castle lost its defensive function and was gradually transformed into a farmhouse. The towers were demolished in 1832, and the moats were filled in.

Today, the Daillens Castle is a private property and is still used as a farmhouse. It has largely preserved its Renaissance appearance, despite the many modifications. The building is a listed historical monument and bears witness to the rich history of the region.

Legends and Anecdotes

According to a local legend, a secret underground passage connects the Daillens Castle to the nearby Romainmôtier Abbey. Another anecdote tells that the castle was once haunted by the ghost of a white lady.
