In the commune of Bannegon in the French department of Cher, the Château de Bannegon is located. The castle was originally conceived as a defensive structure and has a history dating back to the 11th century.

History+

The origins of Château de Bannegon as a border fortification between the Berry and Bourbonnais regions date back to the 11th century. The complex, surrounded by moats and defensive towers, is first mentioned in written records in the 12th century. It survived the Hundred Years' War and hosted King Charles VII in 1431 and 1454. In 1568, the castle was besieged by 2000 men due to its owners' sympathies for the Reformation. During the French Revolution, the castle was declared national property and sold.
