Château de Beggen

In the 18th century, Pierre Bourgeois, owner of the paper mill in Senningen, acquired the estate. Auguste Dutreux became the new owner in 1851, before the company Metz & Co purchased the property in 1865. Emile Metz had a villa built on the grounds in 1880, but it was destroyed by fire in 1894. Between 1894 and 1895, Metz commissioned the Brussels architect Wynand Janssens to construct the current castle in a historicist style. After Metz's death in 1904, his widow Edmée Tesch inherited the property. Following her passing in 1919, the estate went to Emile Mayrisch and Gaston Barbanson. Barbanson acquired Mayrisch's share in 1923 and resided in the castle until the German occupation of Luxembourg in May 1940. During World War II, the property was first used by the Wehrmacht (1940-1944) and later by units of the US Army (1944-1945). After Barbanson's death in 1946, his heirs renounced the property, which then passed to a charitable fund. In 1949, the castle was sold to a Belgian businessman and used as a hotel from 1950 to 1956. Since 1956, it has served as a diplomatic representation, initially for the Soviet Union, which acquired it in 1973.

The Château de Beggen is located in Luxembourg-Beggen, within the city of Luxembourg, in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It stands at an elevation of approximately 246 meters above sea level.

Today, the Château de Beggen houses the Russian Embassy and is therefore not publicly accessible. The castle is well-preserved and continues to be used for diplomatic purposes.
