History+

The origins of the Château de Belcastel date back to the 9th century, when the oldest parts of the complex were built. The castle developed in the possession of the Belcastel family and later served as the ancestral seat of the Saunhac family. After the 17th century, the fortress increasingly fell into disrepair and eventually lay in ruins. In 1928, the Château de Belcastel was officially recognized as a historic monument. A turning point occurred in 1974, when the French architect Fernand Pouillon discovered the ruin.
