Château de Billy
In the French commune of Billy in the Allier department, the Château de Billy, a castle ruin, is situated on a hill. It shapes the landscape of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
History+
The origins of the Château de Billy date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. The castle was owned by the Bourbon family, who also controlled the fortified town of Billy and the province of Bourbonnais. Both the castle and the Bourbon lordship maintained their significance until the outbreak of the French Revolution in 1789.

The ruins of the Château de Billy are open to the public. The site, listed as a "Monument historique" by the French Ministry of Culture since 1921, is privately owned. The main fortification has an ovoid layout, complemented by a hexagonal watchtower. A châtelet guards the entrance. From the southern curtain wall, a panoramic view of the Allier valley is available.
