Château de Blonay

To be privately owned

Blonay Castle was built in 1175 by William II of Blonay, Savoyard ministerials. The family has inhabited it since that time – with a brief interruption in the 18th century – up to the present day.

The oldest still existing part is the mighty square keep from the founding period, which was raised in later years and incorporated into a series of buildings arranged around a courtyard. The castle, with an irregular square floor plan, formerly had four corner towers, two of which are still preserved today.

It possesses a courtyard of honor with a Renaissance-style loggia (1677) on the west side, as well as a castle chapel from the 15th century with stained glass windows from 1577. Numerous restorations and alterations were carried out on the residential buildings from the 18th to the 20th century; furthermore, the castle moats were filled in during the 19th century.
