The Château de Bois-Briand, a historic castle in Nantes, France, was recognized as a "Monument National" in 2008.

History+

Originally, the estate bore names such as Bois-Briant or Bois-Brient. The medieval defensive structure transformed into a château in 1699 when it was sold by the Charette family to the Le Meneust des Treilles family. It evolved into a "maison de plaisance," a pleasure residence that served recreation and economic production, such as wine and dried fruits for sailors. Such estates in the Nantes region were often referred to as "Folies."
