Château de Bruniquel

According to legend, Queen Brunhilda laid the foundation for the complex in the 6th century. Two centuries after its construction, the castle was divided between two branches of the House of Comminges, giving rise to the “Château Vieux” (old castle) and the “Château Jeune” (young castle). The Château Vieux still preserves its 12th-century keep, from a time when the Counts of Toulouse were the owners, as well as a 13th-century residence. It also features a Renaissance gallery, while other parts underwent remodeling in the 18th and 19th centuries. The keep is named after Queen Brunhilda.
