Château de Chamerolles

In Chilleurs-aux-Bois in the French department of Loiret stands the Château de Chamerolles. Originally a fortified farmstead, it was transformed into a Renaissance castle in the early 16th century.
History+
The origins of the Château de Chamerolles date back to the 12th century, when it was first mentioned in documents as a fortified farmstead. At the beginning of the 16th century, Lancelot du Lac I began converting the complex into a Renaissance castle. His grandson, Lancelot du Lac II, who actively participated in the first Huguenot War on the Protestant side, converted the castle chapel into a Protestant place of worship. He also had a Renaissance-style garden laid out, which remains a feature of the estate to this day.
