Château de Chamilly

The courtyard is surrounded by farm buildings and a main dwelling comprising a rounded tower on the left. In the 17th century, a classical-style building and a return-angle building were added. The castle, a private property, is not open to visitors.

12th century: The lords of Chamilly probably lived in an initial castle built outside the current village. Late 13th century: The existence of a fortified house is attested. 1388: The castle passes to Jean de Savianges. Around 1400: It passes to Pierre de Semur. Around 1440: It passes to Jean Petitjean. Lord of Chanceau-les-Marcigny, of Chamilly-en-Chalonnais, of Saint-Martin-du-Lac, husband of Ysabeau de la Porte, and father of Jean Petitjean, abbot of the Abbey of Saint-Martin d'Autun. Around 1500: It falls to the Moroges. 1543: Claudine de Moroges brings the seigneury to Jacques Bouton, her husband. 1644: Louis XIV elevates the seigneury to a county in reward for services rendered by Nicolas Bouton, lord, then count of Chamilly, baron of Montaigu, grandson of the preceding (having defended Stenay for forty-five days, he had become a field marshal).
