History+
The origins of the estate date back to 1059, when Châtillon was a castrum under the rule of the Counts of Blois, then a simple wooden fortification. After its destruction in 1143 by Louis VII and the extinction of the Châtillon family, the Lords of Champagne took over the territory in the mid-12th century. Around 1180, Etienne I de Sancerre had the polygonal keep erected. In 1437, the estate passed to the House of Coligny. Admiral Gaspard II de Coligny shaped the castle from 1547 to 1562 through the construction of terraces and an orangery.
